Prof. Anthony St. Leger, PhD

Dr. St. Leger is Assistant Professor of Opthalmology and Immunology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Professor St. Leger has pioneered an understudied area of ophthalmology, the ocular microbiome and its effects on ocular disease. In particular, the lab explores how ocular resident bacteria may modulate immunity against viral infections like herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1), a major cause of blindness. The St. Leger lab is a major collaborator of the TearDx team, helping them design and conduct in vitro and in vivo studies to validate their wearable diagnostic devices.
